Tropical Depression Nine- Tropical Storm Warnings for Southern Texas

Tropical Depression Nine is becoming increasingly organized in the Gulf of Mexico tonight as it tracks west towards Southern Texas. Current wind speed estimates provided by satellite imagery show a wind speed of around 30 knots, with the storm itself moving around 16 knots. If it continues to strengthen, it is likely to become Tropical Storm Harold before it makes landfall midday Tuesday.

The depression has caused tropical storm warnings to be issued along the southern coast of Texas. The storm is likely to bring heavy rain, between 2 to 6 inches, and gusty winds. There is also the potential for dangerous flash flooding along coastal areas.

The Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to investigate the storm tonight and will be able to provide much more detail about the intensity of the storm. If the storm is able to reach sustained surface wind speeds of 34 knots, it will be upgraded to tropical storm status.
