Heavy Snow and Strong Winds Prompt Blizzard Warning for the Sierra

Snow Potential Over 12 Inches

Heavy snow has been falling throughout the West over the past few days with many mountain resorts reporting incredible snow totals!

Another storm system will bring even more snow and very high winds to parts of the northern Sierra today and tomorrow. Because of this, a Blizzard Warning has been issued which includes Lake Tahoe. 5-10 feet of snow will be possible through Thursday morning for elevations over 7000 feet. Areas at Lake Tahoe level will get between 3 and 7 feet of snow. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph and potentially top 100 mph on the Sierra Ridge.

Travel is not advised in the Sierra. Visibility will be near zero, roads are already snow covered in many locations, and there is a high avalanche potential.
